Form An Outline
You can’t do anything if you don’t know what the end result is supposed to be, which is why you have to gather as much information as possible. In other words, you want a better idea of the client’s objectives. What are they looking to achieve, and what do they expect from you – this is critical info. From there you can actually start planning and take the first steps.
The best way to handle this exchange of information is to hold a design process briefing. The discussions at the briefing should include:
– A summary of the business as it stands
- How does the company stack up against the competition?
- The overall message of the company
- The target market
- The ultimate goal for the client
- A deadline to work towards
Once all of these issues are out in the open, it’s much easier to organize and prioritize.
This is the part where you get to know what you’re dealing with, and it requires learning more about the market. Even if you think you know your client’s specific market, still follow through on what the competition is doing, demand and supply, trends and everything else that might be tied with the client’s business.
